Heat Pipe Working Mechanism

A heat pipe is a device used to transfer heat from one point to another, typically from a heat source to a heat sink. The heat pipe consists of a sealed tube or pipe that contains a working fluid, such as water or ammonia. The heat source causes the working fluid to evaporate, creating a vapor that travels to the cooler end of the pipe where it condenses back into a liquid. Under the right conditions, heat pipes dramatically improve heat sink performance. Due to the very high thermal conductivity of heat pipes; Between 10-100 times that of solid copper. Unlike solid metal, heat pipe thermal conductivity changes with several variables – length being the most factors. Consequently, very short heat pipes of 50mm or less have thermal properties that might be better served by using solid copper or aluminum. Here are the most common usage configurations for heat pipes as part of a heat sink assembly:


  • Moving Heat to a Remote Heat Sink

    Heat pipes are used to move heat, in any direction or orientation, from the heat source (evaporator) to the heat sink (condenser). Below picture is an example.

  • Spreading Heat to a Local Heat Sink

    When a two-phase device is needed yet cost is a driving factor, heat pipes can be used to spread heat to a local heat sink.

Aluminum vapor chamber heat pipe

It is a Flat heat pipe. Also called: The Micro Port Extrusion (MPE)./ Thin planar heat pipes(heat spreader) / Micro Flat aluminum heat pipe arrays / Micro multi-channel flat heat pipe / Flat micro heat pipe arrays / Flat miniature heat pipe with micro capillary grooves

Liquid Cold plate

The heat to be dissipated is fastened to the surface of the liquid cooling plate. The inside of the liquid cooling plate is a flow channel structure with inlets and outlets, and is connected to the external liquid cooling pump circulation system through pipes. The heat absorbed by the liquid cooling plate is brought to an external heat dissipation device with a larger area and stronger performance through the circulation of the liquid for centralized heat dissipation. The cooled liquid flows back to the liquid cooling plate again to take away excess heat.

Loop Thermosyphon

Thermosiphon cooling heat sink module involves four components in a loop: an evaporator with a boiling enhancement structure, a rising tube, a condenser and a falling tube.

3DVC(Vapor Chamber) heat sink

3DVC radiator is a Micro channel flat heat pipe extended from the vapor chamber, connected to form a 3D vacuum body, and the fins are welded between the flat heat pipes.
